Corralejo Dunes in Fuerteventura

Day 2, Visit to Corralejo Dunes

The Dunes in Corralejo Natural Park is one of the most amazing attractions in Fuerteventura. It is impossible to miss them as they are located along the main road of the island. The best way to get there is by a rented car. The sandy dunes are fantastic and so is the view of the ocean and wild beaches from there. The best day to visit the dunes is a windy day when you can see and feel on your body the power of the wind that is getting the sand from the nearby Africa, this sand comes from Sahara desert and it feels like you were there!

The beaches are so huge that they never get crowded, you can find many stone castles to protect people from the wind while they are sunbathing, these are called “Goros” and you can sunbathe without being disturbed or seen. Everyone wants to use a goro and they get quickly occupied so it is better to make people aware that yours has been occupied putting  a T-shirt as a flag. I sat and watched my surrounding and I felt like I have travelled to Prehistory times, great landscapes where you sometimes see a naturist walking and hiding in the little stone houses but if you walk far into the dunes you don't see a soul for hours.

The beach is also a great place to watch the kite/wind surfers as being so windy, the waves are an attraction for them.
