A Day in Oxford

Hi everyone!

I hope you are enjoying the summer, I have not been travelling lately but I have many photos of places where I have been and have not shared with you yet.
Today, I am bringing you the photo shoot of Oxford, a very famous city for its University but it is not a big city, it only has a population of  165,000 habitants.
The main thing to see here as you will guess is...   its University!
I was not sure about sharing these pictures as my brother changed the camera setting and we did most of them with the wrong setting, the light in these photos is terrible, I know it!

Radcliffe Camera

This cobbled square is the heart of the university, formed by a trio of great architectural gems: the medieval University Church of St Mary the Virgin, the 15th-century Bodleian Library and the Palladian-style Radcliffe Camera.

Botanic gardens

This is Britain’s oldest botanic garden is a haven of stone-walled peace in the heart of the busy city centre. The main focus of the gardens is the traditional herbal remedies and their use in modern medicine. The heated greenhouses can be great refuge on chilly days but we could not stay longer than a minute in a sunny summer day.

It is a large, partly ruined Norman medieval castle. The Saxon St George’s Tower at Oxford Castle is the city's oldest building. You'll go underground to the 900-year-old crypt, a tour of the prison and then explore the castle. But the views from the top of the Castle are not as impressive as in different cities.

Christ Church

If you visit just one college it must be aristocratic Christ Church. It’s more like a country house than an educational establishment, with porters still wearing bowler hats.
Its chapel is the city’s cathedral, which opens to residents and visitors for evensong at 6pm every evening.

Magdalen College

Walking through the main streets you will see a beautiful tower, this is Magdalen College. Although it is not opened for tourists, it is nice to see it from the main street.

Chill walking by the river or Punting

You can hire a punt from different parts of the city and float serenely the River Thames passing the college gardens and through the university meadows to the countryside beyond. If you don’t know how to punt then you can hire it with a driver otherwise you will waste a lot of time going round in circles and bumping into other river traffic and not seeing anything.
The other option is walking by the river to chill and enjoy views and nature

THE LOOK:

On this post I am collaborating with two shops, both are like sisters: My bag is  from GAMISS an online store that is celebrating its 1st Anniversary with big reductions and sales at the moments in all their clothes and accessories and my dress is from ZAFUL, one of my favourite online shops for its great choice and its very affordable prices, most of my summer clothes are from Zaful.

I live near Cambridge so I have been many times there, I must admit that I saw both cities quite similar in size, the river with punts, the Colleges... don't you think they are quite similar but always in competition 😅

Nuria Travelera said...

Haha That's true Christ Church is u a few films, did you know that the writer of Alice in Eonderland was teaching maths in Oxford University? 😃

Nuria Travelera said...

Si en bastantes películas como Harty Potter! Haha

Your photos look great (If you fixed the lighting, you did well. If you didn't, then they were good to begin with). I enjoyed Oxford when I visited. My daughter was on a mission to see Harry Potter things when in the UK and Oxford has one of them (a library/hall was used as the infirmary in one of the movies).

Nuria Travelera said...

Nuria Travelera said...

I know Rhonda, we should have gone to see the Library but I totally forgot it! Thanks for saying that photos are OK, I had to fix the lighting in each one and still not very good, I am glad you like them!

Nice to see you enjoyed my local city, I used to work there for around ten years but in all that time I never went up the mound. It's where they use dto hang the condemed prisoners

Nuria Travelera said...

Great you liked it and that's a nice piece of information!, nowadays tourists and students go up the mound to sit and chill as it's a quiet place with views of the city ❤️

What an absolutely stunning travel diary! I have only ever visited Oxford once, though I definitely feel as though I didn't make the most of the trip now. I hadn't realised how much nature was in the city, wow! Loving your printed dress, by the way :)
